K-Rating & M-Rating Decoder
ASTM F2656 uses two parallel rating systems. K-ratings (legacy) and M-ratings (current) are often used together in tender documents. Use the table below to specify correctly.

VEHICLE ACCESS CONTROL — CRASH-RATED BARRIERS
Supply and install crash-rated vehicle access control barriers as manufactured by Delta Scientific Corporation, Palmdale, California, USA (Est. 1974), or approved equal meeting all specified performance criteria.
Performance Requirements:
All barriers shall be tested and certified to ASTM F2656-07 / F2656M-15 at the specified K-rating and M-rating. Minimum rating: K4/M30 (15,000 lb vehicle at 30 mph, penetration class P1 ≤ 1m). Embassy and diplomatic mission perimeters: K4/M30 minimum per DOS SD-STD-02.01 Rev A.
Certification:
Manufacturer shall hold SAFETY ACT Designation from the US Department of Homeland Security. Products shall carry valid ASTM F2656 crash test certificates from an accredited third-party test facility.

The crash test certificate is a legal document
When a Delta Scientific gate is specified for an embassy or government building, the ASTM F2656 crash test certificate is submitted to the client's security authority as proof of performance. It is not a marketing claim — it is an independently verified test result from an accredited facility. No Indian manufacturer can provide this document for a sliding gate.

SAFETY Act designation changes the procurement conversation
The US SAFETY Act designation means Delta Scientific products are classified as Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology by the US Department of Homeland Security. For US embassy projects, this designation is mandatory — not optional. For Indian government projects, it signals the highest level of international security validation available.

Zero-penetration is a different product category
The DSC288 is certified M50/DOS K12 with zero penetration — the vehicle stops completely at the gate line, with no part of the vehicle crossing the barrier. This is required for nuclear facilities, data centres, power plants and high-value government buildings. It is not a higher-rated version of a standard gate — it is a fundamentally different engineering solution.
